Vacation is a captivating idea for all. The challenging part is choosing which place to visit. We know, there’s just too much on the list. And out of all the places around the globe, you choose the Philippines. Welcome to the Pearl of the Orient Seas!
If it’s your first time visiting the country, we’ll help you make the most out of your stay with this First Timers Travel Guide in Philippines 2022. This blog provides you with a 2 to 3 weeks itinerary.
The months of June, July, August, and September are considered to be the rainy season in the Philippines. Sounds like the worst times to travel, right? Well, it isn't.
Aside from the possibility of getting hours of sunshine, you will avoid the crowds. Who says no to having the place all to themselves, or share with a few people?
The highlights of this itinerary are the islands of Bohol (City of Bohol and Panglao Island), Palawan, and Moalboal (Cebu), which are on the top of our favorites. Adding up to the itinerary is Banaue.
And let’s not forget our recent discovery: the island of Siargao. Definitely, a must-visit!
Shall we begin ticking off your travel list? First stop, Banaue.
In the province of Ifugao, Philippines nestles the municipality of Banaue. Spend a good 2-3 days being surrounded by a jaw-dropping scenery of rice terraces.
The trip to Banaue would only require a mini budget. From your arrival in Manila, hop on a bus headed to Banaue. The latest trip is 9 pm. You will spend one night on the bus which may not be an ideal setup for some travelers.
We're heading to the exciting part! Upon arrival at Banaue, you'll pick a trek of your choice. It is mandatory to have a guide as the trails can be steep. Bring your walking gear for a comfortable hike, and for some OOTD shots for the 'gram!
For accommodation, we recommend The Batad View Inn which you can negotiate with the guide.

Next on our First Timers Guide in the Philippines, the island of Bohol. Book a flight to Tagbilaran Airport for 30 EUR (one way from Manila), and savor 3-4 days on this magnificent tropical island.
Start the day by discovering the city of Bohol. Wander around by renting a scooter for 5 EUR per day and you’re ready to uncover the treasures of the island. Here are some of the activities you shouldn't miss:
One night is enough to enjoy the city of Bohol. And to make the most out of it, we recommend Loboc River for 50 EUR per night for a cozy double room. This hotel offers a splendid atmosphere and a charming swimming pool that would make you want to stay for a little longer.
If you’re looking for a more affordable yet polished and home-like place, Villa Feliza is a perfect choice. For 15 EUR per night, you can lounge around the guest house.
Your trip to Bohol wouldn’t be complete without paying a visit to Panglao Island. Take the chance to discover the underwater world by scuba diving or snorkeling, and visit the magnificent Pamilacan Island.
Two days is enough to indulge the beauty of Panglao Island. Spend a whole day on the island, and go for island hopping or water activities on the next day.
Adding up to the list of the things you can enjoy in Bohol are the accommodations where you can have a good rest after a long day. On top of the recommendation is OHANA Panglao Resort which offers luxurious rooms, a swimming pool and chill-out area to loosen up, and a good restaurant.
If you’re looking for an accessible diving site, you’ll never go wrong with Bohol Sea Resort which has its own PADI-accredited dive center. And to complete the tropical experience, head out to Alona Sea Resort for a piña colada, or two.
From Bohol, get on a ferry or a plane to reach Cebu. Stick around at the island of Moalboal for 3 days and 2 nights.
This is one of our favorite spots in the Philippines. Moalboal is a coastal resort town popular among divers. You don’t need to dive 10 meters to see turtles for they will be right in front of you 2 meters from the beach. Aside from the majestic turtles, explore the rich marine life the island has to offer, and an exceptional sardine run experience!
Consider booking a tour at Kawasan Falls and be fascinated with its turquoise water. If you've got tons of energy, go for a 20-25 minutes hike at Cebu's highest peak, Osmeña Peak.
As for the nightlife, hear us out: Amazing is an understatement! It is a crowd favorite among backpackers.
Enjoy a clean space with nice people at Chief Mau Moalboal Cebu with a nice bar and a place to play billiards. For chill and recharging hours, you can lodge at Maayong Hostel.
Next stop would be every beach lover’s dream destination, the island of Palawan. The pristine beauty of the island, and everything that it offers, would make it really hard for you to leave. Spend a minimum of 4-5 days to luxuriate in this paradise.
If you’re in Cebu or Manila, you could take a flight to Puerto Princesa. Prepare for a five-hour land trip to reach El Nido via vans. If you have time for a stopover, drop by at Port Barton. For a more convenient yet expensive option, directly fly to El Nido.
Heads up! Life on the breathtaking island of Palawan is expensive. From boat tours that would take you to magical scenes, to restaurants and bars that offer delectable food and drinks, and excellent accommodations. If you have the extra budget, why not reward yourself with something relaxing, right?
On peak season, hotels are expected to be pricey. It's better if you make sure that it will be worth it. You could choose to stay at either of these two recommendable hotels: Spin Designer Hostel for 12 EUR per night, which is located at the heart of El Nido town; and Outpost beach Hostel, a hostel by the beach of Las Cabanas which is a perfect spot to watch the sunset.
Aside from the great ambiance of these hotels, you'll meet warm and friendly people. You could a find a new friend or simply share a boating or island hopping experience with strangers. You'll never know, paradise never runs out of surprises!
The island of Siargao known as an idyll for surfers! You might ask, how about those who don't know how to surf? The good news, the locals on the island offer surf lessons for PHP 500 per hour. I bet you’ll go home with a new skill on hand! All thanks to this First Timers Travel Guide in the Philippines!
Three days is good enough to admire Siargao. Just like any other island, it has its own kind of beauty that awaits to be discovered. Rent a scooter and drive around the island as you bask under the sun with the refreshing view of coconut trees.
Some of the best activities in Siargao that you should give a try:
Stay at Bravo Hotel for functional and comfortable rooms, quality restaurant, and friendly staff. The hotel is located by the beach with a perfect overlook of Pesangan Reef and the Pacific Ocean. It definitely is more fun in the Philippines!
